“Michael Simms played a key central role in the production of my debut EP “Favourite Songs EP” and follow up album “Painted Pale”. He had the musical and technical foresight to take my basic acoustic guitar and vocal demos and convert those ideas into high-quality studio recordings with a timeless aesthetic. Much like an artist, he really helped to “paint a picture” when it came to my music.” – Doug Edwards (Singer/Songwriter)
“When Michael Simms was helping out with recording guitars for our 2006 EP “Out of Ideas”, I quickly discovered that I had to get him involved with producing some future recordings for my band Fat Mans Cleavage. As far as punk music goes, he has a knack of making things sound radio-friendly, but in a way which is respectful to the more “underground” aspects of the genre. Whilst Michael was only an assistant engineer for “Out of Ideas”, both he and producer Luke Reichelt contributed in helping FMC gain the attention of Triple J in 2006 as Unearthed winners as a result of their combined audio engineering talents. In 2007, Fat Mans Cleavage was invited to record some songs for a split EP with fellow Brisbane punk band, The Black Market. This was our chance as a band to work with Michael more thoroughly in the studio. Michael did an awesome job producing our portion of this split EP and even played some guitar parts on the tracks. I will always put a great deal of trust in Michael to do what’s best for my songs.” – Sebastian Loria (Bassist/Vocalist for Fat Mans Cleavage)
“Michael Simms is definitely a talented producer & musician with the potential to live long and prosper in the music field. I’ve played in bands with him and have also played keys on many projects he’s produced for other artists. He approaches all musical genres from a uniquely fresh, yet educated angle.” – Ian Peres (Keyboardist/Bassist – The Whitlams, Wolfmother, Busby Marou, Xavier Rudd)
“I first worked with Michael Simms in 2004 when he came on board to produce a few tracks for my debut EP entitled “Heaven or Hell”. I was highly impressed with Michael’s technical abilities as an audio engineer as well as his musical sensibilities when it comes to the creative aspect of his role as a producer and session musician. Michael also contributed some of his audio magic to one of the songs on my follow up full-length album “Into Being”. Since then, I’ve also found Michael to be a reliable mix consultant as he has always been kind enough to listen to my demos and rough mixes and then offer great technical advise on how my recordings can be improved. Michael has even played as a guest guitarist in my live band for the odd gig here and there. I’ve always enjoyed working with Michael, and hope to do so again in the future.” – Lecia Louise (Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter)
“Michael Simms is a formidable triple threat in the recording studio. His output reveals an artist very much at home across an impressively wide range of sonic and musical styles. From (to name just a few examples) big-hearted jangly acoustic-rock to slinky atmospheric electronica to hook-laiden radio-pop. Think Imogen Heap to Wilco to Weezer. The mastering engineer in me loves working on audio tracks of this caliber, and the music fan in me can’t wait to hear what he does next.” – Tom Durack – Mix/Mastering Engineer (NYC)
